Principalities of Rus

Borivostok, Kiev, Smolensk, Moscow
Based on 13th century Russia

The people of Rus lead simple, practical lives leaving the life of adventure to those who can afford such frivolity. Originally ruled by Varangian Princes from the north, Rus is now broken up into four distinct principalities, each ruled a bit differently but always Russian.

The primary religion of the Principalities is Orthodox, but there are some followers of the Holy church scattered about. The Russian people are also quite superstitious about the old ways and have a tendency to retain their reverence for their spiritualistic roots, i.e. a token sacrifice to the Old Man of the Sea before setting sail.

Beyond clerical magic, there are very few spellcasters in Russia. There is the occasional apprentice wizard out on a quest for his master and a few hedge wizards in some of the larger towns capable of casting some rudimentary magic. There are also stories of the hermit wizard here and there but it is wise to leave them alone as they enjoy their privacy and are usually quite capable of defending it.
